This classic B-17 Flying Fortress bomber was a key part of American’s arsenal of aircraft in World War II. We’re fortunate to be local to the Collings foundation which restores and displays a number of historic planes. This B-17 was one of the planes they would bring out to local airports for people to view, walk around in, and even fly in.
Unfortunately, during one those flights, the plane crashed and burned. Several people lost their lives.
The plane was a treasured piece of history. Its loss – and those of the people who were riding in it – will stay in our thoughts.
