This photo of St Maarten Plaza is a black and white photo taken with my Holga 120 medium format film camera.
I took this photo at the Walter Plantz Square in Philipsburg, which is the capital of St. Maarten. This island is interesting – half of it is St. Maarten, Dutch, while the other half is St. Martin, which is French. This plaza faces the Walter Plantz wharf which is where the cruise ship tenders bring in passengers.
In this image I am at the far end of the plaza looking toward the south, toward the wharf and ocean.
I love the vintage feel of the image – the sense that this could be 2000 or 1950 or 1900. The palm trees would be the same. The visitors soaking in the sun would be the same. I like how the bicyclist was caught at the end of the street.
I took this photo with Xtremist Ultrafine Xtreme B&W 120 ISO 100 Film.
